Exploring the Sierra Mariola, enjoying ice skating, relaxing in the best spas in the area or visiting a real chocolate factory are just some of the activities you’ll want to enjoy during the wintertime, where you do not need to worry about the weather in Valencia. Even for younger people, the low season offers a thousand opportunities to have fun. If you are wondering what to do in winter in Valencia, the following plans deserve to be on your leisure agenda. Are you going to miss out on themy?
Hiking in the Sierra Mariola
Are you passionate about rural tourism? If the answer yes, then the Valencia region will have a lot to offer you during the winter season, when snowfalls whiten the mountain peaks and the landscape acquires a unique beauty. The 16 thousand hectares of the Sierra Mariola are a powerful attraction for hikers, who have the Alcoy-Barranc del Cint and Agres – Montcabrer routes at their disposal, each one around 15 kilometres in length. So you shouldn’t forget to include this mountain range, which was declared a national park in 2002, in your plans for winter in Valencia.
Carcaixent Orange route
The oranges of the Valencia region are among the best in the world and their cultivation in Spain dates back to 1781 to the Valencian locality of Carcaixent, when the first plantation of Citrus × aurantium was established. In order to show off its most iconic places and orange varieties, the Carcaixent town hall organises an Orange Route that captivates both locals and visitors. Although the blooming of the Orange blossoms takes place in spring, winter is the ideal time to do this tour, shortly before the harvest season leaves the orange trees without their characteristic fruit.
Spas for adults …
Saunas, hydromassage tubs, aromatherapy showers, saltwater pools and just some of the treatments on offer in the many spas in Valencia. For instance, there is Olympia Spa & Fitness, Hospes Palau de la Mar, the Hervideros Spa, the Caroli Health Club or the Atlanta Spa, real peaceful havens where time seems to stand still. This is surely a must for adults, although the kids would probably prefer an ice skating session.
… and Fun On Ice for the kids
Although the nearest ski resorts are located in Teruel (Javalambre and Valdelinares), young Valencians won’t need to travel too far to enjoy a little skating. Fun on Ice is located in the Valencian Municipality of Cuart de Poblet and houses the only ice rink in the area. It consists 600 square metres of pure fun, where the youngest can get started start in this beautiful sport, which is not very common in our country for obvious reasons.
Mmm, Chocolate Museum
Can you imagine visiting a real chocolate factory, just like the classic children’s story by Roald Dahl? This experience is actually possible in the Sueca municipality, where the master Chocolatiers Chocolate Artisan Comes inaugurated an extraordinary museum dedicated to this delicious delicacy in 2002. Antique machinery parts, posters, historical documents and photographs, containers from 1800 and many other oddities can all be seen, and we’ll feel just like Charlie did in Willy Wonka’s factory. This is without a doubt, one of the perfect places to visit with the family, along with Movikid, the Madagaspark and other playgrounds in Valencia.
There are certainly no lack of places to visit or things to do in winter in Valencia a time of the year with plenty of charm and attractions, that has nothing to envy of the autumn or spring.
